Hi, I'm Dr. Dana Falk. Welcome to my psychotherapy practice! I'm a Psychologist, licensed to provide tele-therapy (remote sessions), through PSY-Pact, in about 40 states. Bring some gritty emotional honesty, a sharp mind for the patterns in your life and your sense of humor. People say that beginning therapy feels like a great relief.  Together we'll work to understand your distress, resilience and uniqueness, to gain insight about your relationship desires, life patterns and tweak any thoughts, feelings or behaviors that tend to undermine you.

I offer individual psychotherapy for adults. Most of my clients are mid-life and most are in a life transition. It's such a fruitful time to be reflecting on and calibrating your life! Brief therapy is an option, though most of my clients seek ongoing therapy they can return to.

I am a Counseling Psychologist, so I specialize in helping normal people deal with complex issues (as opposed to serious mental illness.)  There's a list of the issues I often help people with on the SPECIALTIES page. I also

list issues I usually refer people to other healthcare providers for help with.

All sessions are by video or phone (your choice) so you needn't be in the Seattle area.  I've found that with remote sessions, we still develop a strong relationship and still accomplish your goals. I do have a lovely office in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, where I'd be pleased to meet with you in person for our first session, if you would like.

An unanticipated benefit to doing therapy by phone or video is how easy it is to schedule and re-schedule sessions. I can be very flexible about day and time when not driving across town for our appointment. I think you're probably quite busy and that flexibility is a real plus.

With me in sessions is my shy French Bulldog, Babette.

I hope for her to be a funny and calming presence, not a distraction. There's more about her role on the THERAPY PUP page.

I am an "out of network" provider with all insurance companies.
This means you'd pay at the time of our session ($210) and I'd give you a special receipt you could submit to insurance if desired. Clients typically pay for sessions with Zelle and some use their Health Savings Account.

I encourage you to investigate, to find someone who "gets you" and is skilled, not just who's in your neighborhood or on your insurance. It usually costs a bit more to see someone outside your network, but not much more. Read about the therapy, supervision and consultations I offer on my SERVICES & COST page, as well as how to understand insurance.

Most of us either over-rely on contemplating things (and have trouble taking action) or leap to immediate changes (and have trouble with patience or insight.) I help people strike the right balance, so they understand root causes and make lasting changes. This balance serves you well throughout life, even when things are fine.

I believe in matching the treatment to each client's personality, history, symptoms and identity; that is called Integrative Psychotherapy. Respectful, culturally-aware, GLBTQ-friendly work are vital, as is your strict confidentiality. There's a description of my perspective about what makes for great psychotherapy on the APPROACH page.

My preparation for doing this work has been a pleasure; it includes training Psychology doctoral students, publishing research, teaching college courses, co-authoring a book and being honored with Fulbright grants for international collaborations in Taiwan and Indonesia. I earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Maryland in 1993 and became a Licensed Psychologist in Washington State in 1995.

I have a relatively small private practice. Seeing a reasonable number of clients enables me to focus on the quality of these relationships rather than on quantity; I like it this way.

Every-other-week sessions are most common in my practice. Most clients have a reserved appointment that recurs at the same day+time. These recurring times appear below. Sometimes a "floating" appointment works better, though: we'd decide as we go about when our our next session will be, and it may not fall on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. If the times below don't work for you, we'd likely be able to work together in psychotherapy by "floating" our appointment times.

RECURRING SESSION TIMES

Mondays 4:00pm - 8:00pm

Tuesdays 3:00pm - 8:30pm

Thursdays 7:30am - 1:00pm

Prior to deciding about therapy, we always begin with a free, Initial Phone Consultation. This conversation gives us both an opportunity to listen for our potential "fit" for psychotherapy. On my APPOINTMENTS page is more detail about the free, 30-minute initial phone consultation.
